Following my previous post on exploring & getting “unstuck” and all that jazz, I’m happy to announce that I’ve done exactly that: step out & stepped up!
My previous weekend supervisor at work had not held onto that role for long when she decided to step down suddenly (a little less than a month if I’m not wrong), and watching her I could tell the role was just stressing her out. So when my boss approached me on taking up the job, I was fairly adamant on turning down the offer. As big a compliment it is to even be offered the job, considering I’ve been with the company for a little more than ten months now, I was afraid of what this job came with: added responsibilities, stress, colleagues not respecting & believing in me enough on handle the job. So I had sat down and spoken to my boss about turning this opportunity down.
Of course, she wouldn’t allow me to turn it down, without a good try at least. And of course, so did many people around me. People would remind me, I’m not the same person as the previous supervisor, and, what she couldn’t handle might actually be what I’m really good at. “How do you know you can’t do it if you haven’t tried”. “This would be a good opportunity to build character and learn how to handle the many stresses that comes with life”. “Do not be afraid to accept challenges, responsibilities and to get far in life, you’ve got to start somewhere”.
So, I’m glad to announce my promotion as Saturday supervisor. Today was my first go at it, and I must say, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It’s especially better when a couple of colleagues told me I’ve done a good job at the end of the day. & two of my bosses saying I’ve done well. With my boss, from my department, saying how proud she is of the work I’ve done today, what a good job I did, and the cherry on top: “I knew you could do it, and do it well”. :D
I guess this in my own way is taking a risk and seeing how I go. Then again, this is only the first week. We’ll give it another couple of tries before I truly convince myself I’m made for a role like this.
Reading this, has been the most inspiring & reassuring thing to have happened to me all week. It’s good to know that your options in life are not limited to the (v expensive) qualifications you have obtained from uni. & that, life, works out magically. When you are stuck, get unstuck & explore. You might even surprise yourself on where you end up.
To everybody out there. No matter where you are in life, YOU NEED TO READ THIS.
Counting the days till my man’ll be back in Melbourne. He’s been gone too long. ):
Finally found my Pinterest invitiation that got lost in my e-mail. (:
